Although painted in 1980, the work is deeply rooted in the artist's childhood and youth memories. Maltsev remembered the wide spring floods of the Siverskyi Donets, when water covered vast areas and almost submerged the villages of Bashkyrivka and Uspenka - landscapes that no longer exist in their former form. The painting preserves not only a natural phenomenon, but a vanished environment. After the construction of the Pechenihy dam, the river's character changed, and with it the lived landscape of the region.
Here the river becomes a bearer of memory - a flowing boundary between past and present.
